Her newest project, Hoahio, finds her collaborating with two of the most exciting young musicians in Tokyo: koto virtuoso Yagi Michiyo, whose debut solo recording Shizuku was released in 1999 on Tzadik, and Sachiko M, whose work with Otomo Yoshihide has earned her international acclaim. In the tradition of the great Japanese girl groups Saboten, Shonen Knife, Fukuko and Papaya Paranoia, this new trio recording is simultaneously charming, mysterious and delightful." —Tzadik (USA) ■ Label / レーベル ■ Tzadik (TZ 7230) (USA) ☁ Details / 詳細 http://www.japanimprov.com/hoahio/disco/ohayo.html ♪Samples / 試聴 https://soundcloud.com/hacohacodotnet/marimo https://soundcloud.com/hacohacodotnet/less-than-lovers-more-than-friends ☁ Reviews (excerpts) / レビュー (抜粋) “Haco teams up with koto player Michiyo Yagi and electronics extremist Sachiko M. This is the sound of three Japanese women taking their musical fun seriously. They might rhythmically improvise strange knifed and loops from ambiguous sounds, but there’s a pleasure principle at work on the album, which is straightforwardly easy on the ear. With its koto skiffle and catchy melody , “Happy Mail” is reminiscent of Japanese folk song. “Seeds” features Sachiko M’s trademark empty sampler noises, but even this is so relaxed it could be subtitled “Happy Glitch”. “Marimo” is exotica ー a meantime fantasy of breaking waves, koto arpeggios and a distant mermaid’s call.” —Clive Bell (The Wire, UK - July 2000) “ “HOAHIO 音頭!” と言いたくなるようなオープニングの曲からして、顔がほころんでしまった。緊張感はあるのに解き放たれているし、実験的な音作りもしているのにポップだし、ラヴリーなのに艶やか。これは3人のケミストリーというより魔法である。しっとりした歌声と17弦の箏などで織りなす’Marimo’ は、まさに毬藻の美しさ。そしてファーストにも入っていた ‘Less Than Lovers, More Than Friends’ には。もう…うっとり…。全身とろける名曲なのです。常に手元に置いておきたい、とってもすてきなCDである。” —行川和彦 (Music Magazine, JP - 2000年6月 )
